It was just an ordinary summer day, a few weeks away from my 18th birthday. I was just hanging out with my friends; my best friend, the girl I’m in love with but loves my best friend, my bookworm friend and her annoying friend that I can’t stand. We were just hanging out at my place, the only place we could ever get privacy, or at least enough to play truth or dare. I didn’t expect much else from that day, except a few laughs, I was wrong. We were just watching TV when some bullshit alert message popped up.

“This is an alert message from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, there is a viral outbreak that has appeared in all major cities in the world. We advise all civilians to remain calm and in their homes until advised or rescue convoy is deployed in your area. All military personnel are to report to the nearest military base to help with the evacuation of the civilians. We repeat, all civilians remain indoors, this has been a message from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.”

Then the message just kept playing over and over again. I grabbed my remote and changed the channel, ever channel played the same message over and over again. The only one that was different was CNN, it showed the actual outbreak. It was  just like in the movies, people eating people. It was horrible yet I couldn’t look away. There was an actual reporter, some woman, who was reporting live where the killings where happening. So stupid. She was grabbed by her hair and slammed on the floor where she was being eaten alive. The cameraman just stood there; recording, until he was grabbed and dropped his camera. We could still see him, he was running away; he didn’t make it far. The girls were frozen, unable to say anything. I just stood up and looked out my window, there was no chaos, yet. My best friend jumped up and said he had to go home, check on his family and girlfriend. The girls pleaded with him, not to go, especially her. She would not let him go alone, but he didn’t let anyone go with him. Then she wanted to go see her family, then the rest of the girls wanted to do the same. I figured, the rest of the girls could go with my best friend since they live in the same direction
